It took a few innings, but once the Royals bats got hot they couldn’t be silenced in Wednesday’s bantam girls city fastball final.
The Royals erupted for 16 runs in three innings to post a come-from-behind 16-8 win over Coronach to win the Moose Jaw Minor Fastball bantam girls title.
“This group of girls is a good hitting team and we knew at some point we were going to get to their pitching,” said Royals coach Dennis Reidy. “We seem to score runs in bunches and that’s what we did tonight.
“Credit to the girls, they had fun and they kept battling and they’re a good group.”
Coronach took a 4-0 lead into the third inning, when the Royals finally broke through. Their first five hitters all reached base and came around to score to earn them a 5-4 lead.
In the top of the fourth Kylee Kupper and Sarah Schafer each scored their second run of the game for Coronach to put them back in front 6-5.
It was short-lived as Shaelyn Sperling, Janelle Acott, Katie Reidy and Paige Mackie came around to score for the second straight inning to give the Royals a 9-6 lead.
Mackie got the start for the Royals and she and Taylor Phillips combined to pitch the Royals to victory.
Sperling and Reidy each finished with three hits, while Acott was 4-for-4 at the plate. Acott and Reidy each scored three runs, while nine different Royals crossed the plate to score in a great team effort.
Kupper, Schafer and Sydney Elder each had two hits for Coronach.
