The Heat nearly erased a seven-run deficit, but came up just short against the Park Hotel Colts in Moose Jaw Senior Women’s Fastball League play Thursday.
The Colts raced out to an early 7-0 lead, but the Heat put the tying run in scoring position in the bottom of the seventh before eventually losing 7-5.
Trailing by two runs, the Heat loaded the bases with two out in the bottom of the seventh, but failed to cut into the lead.
Danielle Gomersall hit a single to extend the inning for the Heat. Jade Young followed with a bloop single before Kim Michelson walked to load the bases. Steph Gomersall hit a hot shot to second where Colts second baseman Caralie Wait knocked the ball down and quickly recovered to throw Gomersall out at first and end the game.
The Colts got off to a fast start as they scored twice in the first inning and three more times in the second inning to go ahead 5-0. By the fourth inning they were ahead 7-0 when the Heat began to rally.
The Heat scored three runs in the sixth to cut the lead to 7-5.
Young finished 3-for-5 with a run for the Heat, while Danielle Gomersall was 2-for-3 with a run. Bernie Meagan and Sonja Folk were both 2-for-4 at the plate and Meagan chipped in with a double.
Jasmine Jackman finished 3-for-4 with a double at the plate for the Colts. Jody Brown was 2-for-3 with a run, while Kim Neithercut was 1-for-2 and also scored twice.
