Slow starts were no problem for the Squirt Select Ice fastball team over the weekend.
The team of 12-and-unders went undefeated in winning the ‘B’ provincial championship held in Regina, coming back from early two-run deficits in their final two games.
After breezing through the round-robin defeating three Regina teams and one from Saskatoon, the Ice came up against Lumsden in the semifinal. Down two after the first inning and a half, the Ice rattled off innings of one, three, three, and one runs while shutting down Lumsden’s bats. Tannis Carle and Kirah Brown each scored two runs, while Darby Fiddler and Emily Reidy each hit run-scoring triples in the 8-2 victory.
In the final, the team faced off against a strong Delisle team. The Ice emerged from their early deficit with a two-spot in the fourth inning thanks to a big hit from Katie Marzolf.
They then put the game away with five runs in the fifth and sixth to win 8-2. Marzolf and Hanna Giddings each contributed two runs while Megan Auger, Darby Fiddler, and Stephanie Carnduff delivered strong pitching efforts in each of the final two matchups.
