The hopes of a hometown victory will rest with the Moose Jaw Canadians during this weekend’s Intermediate ‘B’ Men’s Fastball Provincial Championship.
The team, which has an 11-3 record in Memorial Field league action this summer, will go up against teams from Hanley, Saskatoon, and North Battleford, and a team known as the Dry Creek Penguins. The competition begins Friday, with the final slated for 2 p.m. on Sunday.
Moose Jaw’s entry will feature some of the players from the Park Hotel Giants in addition to the Canadians’ roster. Canadian Sean Lougheed thinks his side has the potential to fare well in the tournament.
“I’m absolutely (feeling good about the team). We’ve played really well this year and are looking forward to playing this weekend and doing really well. I’m expecting big things from us.
“We’ve really been hitting the ball well this year. Our defense is normally bang on. In our early years, that’s what normally kept us in a lot of games, so that’s never been an issue. Our pitching is going to be as good as anybody else’s too.”
