It had been awhile, but the Park Hotel Colts showed that they hadn’t forgotten how to rebound from a loss.

The Colts beat the KCS Marketing Slammers 7-0 Wednesday in Game 3 of their best-of-five Moose Jaw Senior Women’s Fastball League championship series. The win gives the Colts a 2-1 series lead with Game 4 scheduled for tonight (7 p.m., Caribou Heights).

“We had to come out and play the way we can play — relaxed, playing defence one out at a time and going up to bat like it’s batting practice and be nice and relaxed,” said Colts coach Terry Banilevic.

“All around it was a great ball game. They made some great plays. Kim (Neithercut) pitched really well and kept them off balance. All around it was everything you can ask for and more.”

The Colts lost Game 2 by a 3-2 score Tuesday which was their first league loss of the season.

The Colts came out ready to play as they opened the scoring in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead.

The game turned, however, in the bottom of the third inning.

With two out, Colts outfielder Keri Merkel fouled a pitch off of the brim of her batting helmet and back into her own face. Merkel shook it off and earned a walk.

With the bases loaded, Allison Gallagher then stepped up and hit a line drive right at Slammers pitcher Jess Wiens. Gallagher drove in a run to take a 2-0 lead.

Deleigh Lacelle was able to prolong the rally when she ran out an infield single when it was ruled that the Slammers’ first baseman trapped the ball. That drove in another run and kept the inning alive which proved to be very significant as Nic Whitehead hit a bases-clearing, three-run double down the left field line to extend the Colts lead to 6-0.

Neithercut and their defence didn’t give the Slammers any life as they sent the Slammers down in order in consecutive innings and again in the seventh.

Neithercut further helped her cause in the fifth when she drove home Nicole Allport to put the Colts ahead 7-0.
