People from around Moose Jaw and surrounding area, gathered at the speed skating oval in Wakamow Valley on Sunday to remember Terry Fox.
Participants ran or walked to raise money for cancer research in the name of the man who attempted to run across Canada in 1980.
Some people involved, such as Lee Davison, participated because a family member is a cancer survivor. Davison said this is a great way to bring attention to cancer and what can be done to fight it.
"My son is a cancer survivor," said Davison. "He has been cancer-free for 15 years now."
His son Brandon, who also participated, said he wanted to raise money to help people in the same position he was in.
Another participant, Phyllis Cornea said she has lost members of her family to the battle against cancer.
"It is an important cause," said Cornea. "Everything that we can raise for research is always good."
Students from Central Collegiate's Grade 10 wellness class went to Wakamow to run and walk for the occasion.
Emily Weekes, Tara Petrie, Kelsi Dell, Caitlyn Howe and Kayla Heebner all agreed this is an important issue.
All five said they participated to make life better for someone who is suffering. Together they raised $282.
"I'm doing this to raise needed money for cancer research and to know that I am making a difference," said Petrie.
