What could be better than a winter's day in Wakamow Valley? Moose Jaw's Margaret Moran believes on Sunday, the answer to that question would be nothing.
The Northwest Community Association and Wakamow Valley are teaming up to hold horse-drawn sleigh rides and a family fun skate, from 12:30 to 5 p.m., at Kiwanis River Park and the speed-skating oval.
"We've been cooped up. It's a good way to relieve some of that cabin fever," she told the Times-Herald.
Moran is treasurer of the community association and executive assistant for the valley. Normally the two organizations hold separate winter events but when cold weather forced the cancelation of sleigh rides in December, she decided to rearrange that annual Wakamow Valley affair to coincide with the community association skating day.
Everyone is welcome to partake in sleigh rides, outdoor skating, tobogganing, snow painting and other activities, free of charge, this weekend.
There will also be kick-sledding on the river, which Moran said is sort of like cross-country skiing but with a passenger seat in the front.
A concession will provide hot dogs, hot chocolate, coffee and "moose patties," which Moran said are large sugar-covered pastries, similar to beaver tails or elephant ears.
Regarding the horse-drawn sleigh route, passengers can either expect a trek along the Moose Jaw River, or a 15-minute trip to the Burger Cabin and back. It all depends on the weather.
"It's just a little fun day for people who like doing winter activities."
