Morgan Waldo made a big impression tearing up the mountains of North America with the National Alpine Training Centre club team in Calgary.
But that training and success comes with a very real and very significant financial cost. Now as the Moose Jaw native prepares to join the Alpine Alberta ski team, her costs will hit $50,000.
"It's always a big burden anytime you're dealing with that kind of expense," says Morgan's mother Randee Waldo.
Of that total expense, only about $15,000 covers Morgan's living costs for her year.
"She lives quite small, you could say."
The Waldo family have organized local fundraisers to help make the cost manageable, the latest being a steak night, dance and auction Friday.
"We've been very lucky in the sense that we've got good friends and a good community (of) people who have helped out," says Randee. "These fundraisers have made all the difference for us."
The auction will feature a wide variety of items, including a sold-out Yvette Moore print titled 'Playtime Melody', and an outdoor propane fire pit.
Randee is touched by the support her family has received from the community.
"I've had people call me and say 'I would like to donate.'"
