A four-time defending 2A provincial champion, a 3A powerhouse that is the two-time league champion and a bunch of upstarts with some players with provincial team experience.
The Moose Jaw High School Girls Soccer League is going to have a lot of things going for it this year.
"They're in their second week of practice, but I'd say a lot of the girls played over the summer," said co-commissioner Larry Segall. "We're hoping the conditioning and the skill level will be there and be high and they'll be ready to go."
The three city teams in the league started exhibition play Thursday with a handful of games with two 25-minute halves. Caronport travelled to Swift Current and Weyburn went down to Estevan for full exhibition games.
In the Moose Jaw contests, Vanier beat Central 1-0 on a goal by Jessica Meyer and Vanier then defeated Peacock 1-0 on a goal by Linnea Smith. The Central-Peacock score was unavailable.
The league is once again a using a seven-team format, with Riverview continuing their leave of absence from last year. Apart from that, the league returns with a strong field of teams.
The regular season starts Saturday morning with games at Sunningdale Fields and continues until Oct. 7. The playoffs start Oct. 9 with the league final Oct. 16.
