The Caronport Cougars girl soccer team's two goals against Central Tuesday bested their offensive record for the entire 2007 season.
Caronport lost 4-2 to Central, but the signs are there for a stronger presence in the Moose Jaw High School Soccer League action.
"I have lots of inexperience, but we're making progress," said Cougars coach Rod Appleby. "We played significantly better than we did in our first (exhibition) game so I'm optimistic."
The goals came for Caronport's Marie McCullough and are clearly a step in the right direction for the team. One of the goals was a low shot to the short side and the other was a direct shot from 25 yards out, high and over the goalkeeper into the net.
The offence is something to build on.
"We look at that as a measure of progress," Appleby said of being able to score against Central, a perpetually tough opponent.
Central's offence was spread around through goals by Jaime Bromley, Samantha Hanson, Shelby Mackey and Sara Spence.
In other action, the Swift Current Arden took a 4-2 victory over the Vanier Spirits in Swift Current.
Jill Kennedy and Mikaela Mamer each scored twice for the Ardens, Jessica Meyer had a pair of goals for Vanier, Alex Kowalski their other.
