Nothing makes sport more exciting than close and competitive battles between several strong teams
With that in mind, the 2009 Moose Jaw high school girls soccer league season is shaping up to be a great one, according to the league's commissioners.
"I would say it's going to be a good, competitive league this year," says Larry Segall.
"Vanier is coming off of a 2A provincial championship, and they have a lot of their members still in place. They'll be very strong. Peacock has lost a few key players from their 2008 league championship team, but . . . they have some returning veterans and I'm told they have a few good rookies coming out."
Sandi Hutchison doubles as co-commissioner and co-coach of Peacock, and she is excited for the new season in both of her roles.
"Peacock has lost a lot of Grade 12s and we've got a whole slew of Grade 9s coming in, so it's going to be a building year for us," she says. "Both Vanier and Central have a lot of players coming back (as well as) some new ones coming in."
The defending champions will likely be looking over their shoulder as other teams will be looking to dethrone them.
"I think there's the expectation that Peacock's going to come out strong after winning the league championship," says Hutchinson. "Vanier, of course, won 2A provincials, so they'll have a target on their back (as well)."
It's not just the Moose Jaw teams that will be contending for a league title.
