The Swift Current Ardens capped an undefeated season in the Moose Jaw High School Girls Soccer League with a 2-1 penalty kicks victory over the Vanier Spirits Thursday.
The Ardens — who posted a 8-0 record through the regular season and defeated Peacock 11-0 in their semifinal — were given all they could handle by the Spirits (7-1) but prevailed 3-2 in the shootout. Kaylee Kyle, Brittany Schafer and Cassidy Andres scored for Swift Current; Kaitlin Thiessen and Allyson Gerhart scored for Vanier.
The game was tied 1-1 after regulation. Swift Current's Katrina Letwiniuk scored on a corner kick 10 minutes into the second half and the lead held until the game's final minutes when Vanier's Carmen Fielding scored on a penalty kick after a handball in the box.
The city title is the third for Swift Current since the league's inception.
