Trudy McBean found her second trip to the Schwan’s USA Cup even more satisfying than her first trip two years ago.
Considering McBean and her provincial soccer teammates won the tournament two years ago, that’s saying a lot.
McBean, 17, and the Saskatchewan Huskies club team won the under-17 gold division title in Minnesota. It’s the same core group of players who won the under-15 title, but McBean said this time they had a lot more fun.
“We really improved I think. The last time all of the games were close, but this time it was easier,” said the Central standout.
“We tried to make it more fun. Last time was more serious. I enjoyed it last time, but I enjoyed it more this time. We had a lot of fun.”
The Huskies beat the Minnesota Thunder Academy’s 93 White team 1-0 in the final. It was by far their closest game. The Huskies won all six of their games and out-scored their opponents 40-3.
“Our final game was hard. They were really good,” said McBean. “It was a tough game. They were really physical.”
The Huskies beat the Southwest Tornadoes from Ontario 5-2 in the semifinal after throttling the Ramsey Stars 14-0 in the quarter-finals.
