It took extra time, but the Central Cyclones won their third straight regional soccer title.
Augustine Kamara scored his second goal of the game in extra time to give the Cyclones a 2-1 win over the Yorkton Sacred Heart Saints. Sacred Heart has won two straight 2A boys provincial soccer titles.
“It was a nice recovery from Wednesday,” said Central coach Mike DeCorby in reference to the Cyclones city final loss to Vanier.
“We left a lot of goals on the field, but we scored one in extra time which was really nice. I was pretty happy to get it. This should give us an easier draw at provincials.
“It was nice to win that one.”
Central clinched their spot in the provincial tournament in Warman with a 3-0 win over Notre Dame. Ahmed Jabril, Seleman Mende and Daboulis Ebet scored for Central.
In the other regional semifinal, Sacred Heart beat Vanier 1-0 thanks to a Colin Shewchuk goal in the second half.
