Jason Jones is also holding a soccer camp in the new year for players under the age of eight. The camp will be held from Jan. 2-6 from 1-3 p.m. at the FieldHouse.

“We are now in a long term development program for the Canadian Soccer Program. This is Stage 2 program…a fundamental program,” said Jones.

Players can register for $95 and will receive 10 hours on instructions (two hours a day), a soccer jersey and a soccer ball.

“When I’ve done this program before, the kids really enjoy the jersey because it is something special,” he said. “The younger players feel like they are a real soccer player because they have the real jersey.”

The camp will focus on the fundamentals of soccer, including dribbling and passing with both feet. Jones will have training sessions as well as a scrimmage game after each session.

“We will do a lot of dribbling and we will do sessions that follow a progression. We will do a session that involves a warm up, two activities for them and then a game that will reflect what we have worked on in those sessions,” he explained. “We are going to have a lot of fun and the emphasis is on that with these young kids.”

The deadline for the camp is also this Saturday. This camp is directed at students in the Prairie South School Division, as the Holy Trinity Catholic School Division is already back to classes.

For those interested in the camp, can contact Jones at 630-4741 or jjsoccer@sasktel.net
