It was a solid weekend for the Excelsior F.C. teams.
The JJ Soccer District Training Centre teams competed at the ACFC Soccer Summerfest Tournament over the weekend.
The under-12 boys drew a hard pool, but won it by capitalizing on goals. They didn’t concede a game in the round robin and qualified for the final, which they won 2-1.
“This group played some nice football this weekend,” said Jason Jones via release. “When challenged and in tough, they fought and they earned their result.”
The under-12 girls also drew a tough pool, but they put up a fight in each game by executing their plan.
Their second game was their best game as they created chances.
“The system and style of play is now in place for this group,” said Jones. “Keep an eye on this group in the future, as with continued development, they are going to vastly improve and will be a team on the move.”
The team posted a 0-3-0 record at the tournament.
In the under-10 coed division, the Excelsior F.C. team player well and was team of the day on Friday after posting a 4-3 loss, but played well and created offensive chances.
“This team also organized a huge comeback on Saturday afternoon after being down 4-1,” said Jones. “They scored just before half-time and then scored two more goals to earn a draw.”
The group posted a 0-2-1 record.
Finally, in the under-eight coed division, they posted a 2-1-0 record.
“They played with such heart while creating wonderful chances to score goals, which they did — tallying 13 goals in three games,” said Jones. “This team played the ball back to the goalkeeper and away from pressure. Keep an eye on these future stars.”
Overall, the teams combined for a 6-6-1 record.
