Moose Jaw -
Dogs of all shapes and sizes were showing off their skills at the Agility Association of Canada's regional championships held at the Golden Mile Arena over the weekend.
This is the first time the regional competition has been held in Moose Jaw.
"It's an annual event (with) competitors from Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Nunavut," said Sharon Weekes, the agility co-ordinator for the Band City Kennel and Obedience Club.
Weekes said organizing the regional championships was a huge undertaking and more work than the normal trials the club runs.
"It has been awesome, a really good time. Everyone has been enjoying themselves and the city has been a great host," said Weekes.
The regional championships are all master courses and dogs are required to earn 350 points throughout the weekend in order to qualify for the nationals in Ottawa.
The event saw 105 dogs running throughout the weekend. Three- quarters of the dogs at the event came from Saskatchewan.
"We have an awesome agility community here in this province," said Weekes.
Dogs did three runs on Saturday and three runs on Sunday.
Dogs compete in the gamble, an event where owners have 40 seconds to make up their own course and then a whistle blows and the dogs have to perform a specific course while their owners remain outside the area.
The dogs then compete in the standard run where the dogs must complete every jump, tunnel or obstacle in the order that the judges have laid out. Points are deducted for any errors that happen through the run.
