Moose Jaw -
The Moose Jaw Tennis Club is gearing up for another season, and no one is more excited than Drew Hager.
A Grade 12 student at Central, Hager will be co-manager of the club this year, as well as one of two pros on hand.
"I'm going to be running the membership part, the league, I'll be doing a lot of lessons," he says. "Kind of just keeping the place running."
Hager applied for the position last year, but didn't get the job. But this time around he was a little more fortunate.
"They offered it to me, but I couldn't do it during school," he explains. "So Jim (Kirkpatrick) offered to do it during school so I could take over in the summer."
Hager has been playing tennis since his grandmother Joan Buckmaster - the other club pro - introduced him to it at the age of six. But to be named as a pro is a great honour for him.
"It's a really big compliment," he says, noting that he has four years of teaching the sport already under his belt.
"I've had lots of experience working with the club, just not managing."
The club is holding an early bird membership drive April 25 and 26 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and everyone from returning members to newcomers is invited to drop in. Lessons are available for booking and will begin May 4.
