Drew Hager will have a deep and difficult field to battle if he wants to repeat as the Moose Jaw Tennis Club's men's singles champion.
And he couldn't be happier about it.
Hager, the club co-manager and pro, is extremely excited that the club has a field of 19 men's competitors battling to dethrone him.
"It's a very good number for the club championship," said Hager. "We have three matches in the round of 32 which I've never seen before."
The club championships begin Wednesday with those three rounds in the men's singles competition. Play will continue each day until Sunday's finals in the men's and women's singles and doubles and the mixed doubles.
Last year Hager won his first title as he beat Jim Kirkpatrick 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 in the final.
"Last year me and Jim were in the final and Jim had to play a semifinal in the morning and then the final, so this year the semifinal is Saturday and the final is Sunday. The quarter-finals are Friday and the round of 16 is Thursday," said Hager. "So if the weather holds up that should work smoothly."
