A remarkable battle of records was one of the highlights at the high school district track and field meet Wednesday.
Central's Jina Barker and Cornerstone's Jessica Lariviere traded the junior girls triple jump record six times during the event, with Barker eventually winning the gold.
"She broke it first, and then I broke it, and then she broke it, and then I had the last jump," said Barker. "I knew I had to do it and I just broke it."
The previous record of 10.74m was set in 1979, standing thirty years only to be run over repeatedly by the two girls, who both surpassed the 11m mark for the first time. Barker's new record stands at 11.27m
Lariviere beat out Barker for the gold in the long jump competition, and the two acknowledged they have a rivalry of sorts.
