There will be tears of joy, tears of memory, smiles of hope and shouts of happiness as hundreds of participants gather tonight for Moose Jaw's annual Relay for Life.
Anyone who has participated in the event or has been a spectator knows how emotionally-charged the event can be as the energies of the teams and their supporters come together to raise money to stop cancer in its tracks.
Moose Jaw's past Relay for Life activities have been financially rewarding, usually going beyond the expectations and goals of the organizers.
While the money raised is a vital component of the project, just as important is the opportunity for survivors to tell their success stories, for anyone living with cancer to receive support from others in the same situation, and for everyone to applaud the determination being shown to fight and even defeat the disease.
The speedskating oval in Wakamow Valley will be abuzz with entertainment, speeches, uninterrupted walks by team members, the lighting of the luminaries, and ultimately, the announcement of the total amount of money raised.
Fundraising has been ongoing since last year's event, an indication of the importance of Relay for Life in this community - many small steps that have turned into the silent thunder of united feet, all walking to win a battle that attacks without regard for name, rank or station in life.
Walkers will light the road to cancer hope
