There were a lot of new records set at the Prairie South Grade 7-8 track meet Thursday.
Most were set in new events, but Sunningdale's Brendan Forbes was the only one to break a previously existing mark. The Grade 8 beat Chad Himmelspeck's 1990 record in the senior boys 100-metres. Forbes ran a heat in 11.81 seconds which was better than Himmelspeck's 11.92.
In the 100m final Forbes won in a slower time of 12.20.
"I went a bit faster last year, so I was expecting to go a bit faster," said Forbes. "I had so many events already, I think I was a little tired."
While he was hoping for a better winning time, he was happy with his record time in the heat.
"I was pretty excited when I broke the record," said Forbes. "I wasn't sure if I would be able to do it."
It was a big day for Forbes who won five gold medals. Forbes won the 100m, 200m, high jump and triple jump in addition to being part of the winning Sunningdale relay team.
Forbes was a senior competitor last year as well and won four medals in the same four events.
