What started as a charity fun run through the scenic park in Wakamow Valley has evolved into something much better.
And much, much bigger.
The eighth annual edition of the Moose Jawg Charity Road Race - which also acted as the fifth stop of the season on the Sask Athletics Timex Road Race series - proved to be the most successful in the event's history as more than 400 runners took part.
A far cry from the 75 or so who took part in the first successful Jawg, and a sign of the race's ever-growing popularity.
"It was incredible," said race organizer Dawn Luhning. "Honestly, our numbers have just exploded over the last year. . . It's all just great news for the Health Foundation because as much money as possible can go back to them."
Luhning felt the popularity of this year's event might have been boosted by a handful of race cancellations elsewhere in the province, including the once-popular Regina SGI Charity Road Race originally scheduled for mid-June. With runners looking to race, the five and 10-kilometre Jawg circuit became that much more enticing.
