Sports fan or not, one can't help but be in awe of Usain Bolt's accomplishments at the IAAF 2009 World Track and Field Championships. Two world records - both his - went down the drain, allowing him to retain the title as the fastest man alive.
The times are impressive: 9.58 seconds in the 100 metre race, 19.19 seconds in the 200 metre race. But if you saw either race, you can't help but be amazed at the ease he exudes in setting these records.
Most of all though, we are impressed that he appears to have done this through training and natural talent with no apparent cheating at all - at least, not so far.
He is, to put is mildly, an amazing runner and an amazing athlete.
There was much hype and anticipation of his performances - but by the media, not him. And while there was some celebrating at the end of each race, it was not over-the-top as we have seen by others in the past.
It's not like Canadians haven't known the sheer joy of seeing one of our own claim that title. Ben Johnson's victory, though, was short-lived when we learned he had tested positive for steroids. And we held our collective breath awaiting Donavon Bailey's test results then heaved a huge sigh of relief when we learned he was indeed the fastest man alive at that time.
Now it's Bolt's time to shine for his country, Jamaica. And the whole world is in awe.
Fastest man, exciting man
