The 23-year-old Marquis native and Peacock alumnus finished first in the women’s division for the third straight year, breaking the previous course record — held by her — with a time of two hours, 58 minutes, nine seconds.
“They said I was the first female to run a marathon (in less than) three hours,” said Froehlich, admitting that it was daunting to try and go for a three-peat.
“I was kind of nervous going into it, because for the last two years I’ve set records,” she said. “I didn’t know if I could do it and I was a bit nervous, but once I got running it was a good race.”
Though she runs between eight and 15 miles every morning, Froehlich shuns the fads and body science that sometimes overwhelms the sport.
