At the Moose Jaw Invitational Track Meet last week, Central’s Jina Barker broke the senior girls triple jump record that was originally set back in 1979, but the ultra-competitive Barker said afterwards she was not still happy with her performance.
Her 11.13 metre jump, which was good enough for the Invitational record, was not her personal best as she beat that mark last year as a junior with 11.27 metre leap.
Barker was a smiles yesterday as she leaped a distance of 11.59 metres Wednesday at the Moose Jaw High School Athletic Association City Track and Field Event, which happened to also be a meet record and a personal best for the Grade 12 Central track star.
Tye Buettner had just about a perfect day on the track for her school, Peacock. Buettner finished first in the junior girls 100-metres, 200-metres, 400-metres and 800-metres.
Her 800-metre race finish was also a meet record with 2:22:78, despite the distance being relatively new to her.
“I just picked up that distance this year, I’ve never run it before and I thought the ‘4’ was nerve wracking but the ‘8’ is much worse and it hurts more,” said Buettner. “But I do like the mid-distances.”
