For the fourth straight year, Vanier Collegiate’s school halls will have the Moose Jaw High School Athletic Association City Track and Field Event trophy on display.

The 61 Vanier athletes registered for the Wednesday meet at Gutheridge Field accumulated 930 team points, 250 points better than second place Central, who put up 680. Peacock finished third with 654.

The team’s Grade 12 students, some of whom have been on a city championship winning team every year they have competed, gathered around the trophy near the end of the award ceremonies. Linnea Smith and Tony Gibson both stood tall and each smiled a big laugh and smile as they hoisted the golden prize above their heads.

“It was a little nerve wracking because you never know how the day will come and how the athletes will perform but they definitely came out and they had a lot of personal bests (PB’s) today,” said Vanier track coach Leanne Meili. “That’s what I told the kids: ‘just go out, try you best, try to get a PB,’ and we had a lot of good results today.”
