The Central Butte Bulldogs were the last team in the region to win a sectional event held on Gutheridge Field as they claimed the South Central District Athletic Association North Section Track and Field Meet title on Thursday with 496 total team points, 66 more than second place Avonlea.
Out of the school’s 49 athletes, 20 of them are expected to head out to the the district competition next Wednesday at Gutheridge Field.
“Not too bad of a ratio,” said Central Butte track coach Clayton Menzies. “Central Butte has a strong history in track. We’ve had a lot of athletes advance through sectionals and into districts and quite a few make it into provincials as well.
“There’s a strong tradition.”
