The day after a football game it isn’t always easy to get out of bed, never mind go for a long run.

A trio of starters for the Peacock Tornadoes football team are logging a lot of kilometres in addition to the pounding physical toll they get during the football season.

Regan Silversides, Emmett Harrison and Graeme Harrison finished one-two-three in the senior boys 6 km race at the South Central district cross country meet at Wakamow Wednesday.

“The Harrisons are awesome. We always push each other,” said Silversides who admitted pulling double duty is a grind, but it’s worth it.

“It’s a double workout most days. It’s exhausting, but you just keep going,” said Silversides. “It’s been four years like this, so I’m starting to get used to it.”

Silversides won the race in a quick 19 minutes and 55 seconds. Emmett Harrison was second in 21:31 and Graeme Harrison was third in 21:42.

Graeme Harrison’s time was especially impressive when you consider he ran the course with a sprained ankle.

Peacock’s Tye Buettner won the senior girls race, covering the 5 km in 15:57. Jillian Egroff finished second and Taylor Stevenson was third ensuring a Peacock podium sweep at the senior level.

The top 10 in each of the high school age groups earned the right to compete at the SHSAA provincials in Regina on Saturday, Oct. 16.

The races had 86 total runners which is the best total since the amalgamation of the districts.
