The weekend finished earlier than hoped for the local schools taking part in the Moose Jaw high school boys volleyball tournament.

Central, Vanier and Riverview/Cornerstone all fell in the first round of the Tier I playoffs Saturday. Peacock, meanwhile, lost in the Tier II playoffs.

Caronport had the best post-round robin run of the local teams. The Cougars knocked Vanier out in straight sets (25-22, 27-25) to move on and face Greenall in the semifinal. That match up would prove to be a close and competitive one, with Greenall narrowly beating out Caronport 2-0 (27-25, 25-22).

“We had a really slow start,” said Cougars coach Cal Carter. “But they guys just came on in the end and fought through some tough games.”

Central finished with a 4-6 record in the round robin portion before losing to Greenall 2-0 (25-16, 25-18) in the playoffs. Vanier posted a 8-4 round robin record, while Riverview’s perfect 6-0 start on Friday didn’t carry through to Saturday, and the Royals finished the round robin 9-3. They would fall to Mossbank 2-0 (25-23, 25-13) in the playoffs.

Peacock went 3-10 in the round robin before losing to Frontier 2-0 (25-17, 25-22) in the playoffs.
