The Vanier and Central girls volleyball teams both made the playoffs, but neither one will be coming home with a medal.
The Vanier Spirits rallied Saturday to finish with a 2-2 record in their pool at the SHSAA 4A girls volleyball provincials. In the quarter-finals they lost 2-1 (25-23, 20-25, 25-22) to Melville.
The Central Cyclones also finished with a 2-2 record in their pool at the 5A girls volleyball provincials. In their quarter-final game they lost 2-0 (25-14, 25-9) to Regina Winston Knoll.
The Central Cyclones boys failed to advance out of their pool at the 5A boys volleyball provincials.
In the 4A boys West regional Caronport won the regional title with a 2-1 (25-21, 19-25, 30-28) win over the hosts from Lumsden.
Caronport beat Riverview 2-0 (28-26, 25-17) in the semifinals, but both teams qualified for provincials since Riverview will host next weekend.
