$100,000 donated to new hospital

"Thrilled," said Kelly McElree, executive director for the Moose Jaw Health Foundation (MJHF). "Just thrilled."

The Moose Jaw Businessmen's Club pledged $100,000 to the Moose Jaw Health Foundation's Capital Campaign. Almost at a loss for words, McElree was beside himself to hear the Moose Jaw Businessmen's Club is donating $100,000 to the MJHF's Capital Campaign. The money will be distributed in increments of $20,000 each year for five years. 

"It's outstanding leadership by great people in town," said Dave Reidy, chair of the Capital Campaign. "This gives us a really good start on the campaign, and it's awesome."

The campaign is looking to raise $8 million to equip the new regional hospital. Once the hospital is completed, it will feature the first permanent MRI in rural Saskatchewan and the province's only Universal Care Unit. 

"[The donation] shows the enthusiasm from the community for the new hospital," said McElree. "There are so many firsts that are happening at this hospital and we look forward to more enthusiasm and more commitment."

The Moose Jaw Businessmen's Club decided to donate the money they fundraised to the hospital because they believe the facility is what the people need. 

"We're trying to give back to the community," said Darryl Pisio, member of the Moose Jaw Businessmen's Club. 

"We want the community to grow, and we want the community to have anything and everything that is possible. And really, that's what this is all about."

The Moose Jaw Businessmen's Club also made a $10,000 donation to the local YMCA. 

The money will go toward the Strong Kids Campaign which enables kids to attend camp, get memberships, or provide children and youth with other services.

However, the money donated will specifically be used for the camp. 

"We have 75 attending camp each week, and of those, 10 are sponsored," said Corinne Damaskie, manager of funds development and school age care for the YMCA. 

"But all this money will go toward children, youth and families."

This is not the first time the Businessmen's Club has donated to the YMCA, but they feel it's important all kids have equal opportunity within the opportunity. 

"We feel these programs are important," said Darryl Pisio, member of the Moose Jaw Businessmen's Club. "We've made contributing to various organizations that there's a need for."
